Er Chen Wan

Uses: Cough, Asthma. Er Chen Wan (Er Chen Tang), literally translates as “two aged herbs formula”. It is the foundational formula for resolving what we call phlegm damp in Chinese Medicine terms. The activeherb variant (Er Chen He San Zi Yi Yang Qin Wan) is a similar formula function developed from a combination of two classic formulas for cough and asthma, Er Chen Wan and San Zi Yang Qin Wan.  This formula is used to help reduce cough and asthma symptoms particularly in chronic coughs with thick white or gray tongue coating and phlegm.  Within Chinese Medicine theory these conditions often arise from a weak digestive system which cannot properly process food and fluids.  This weakness leads to the accumulation of phlegm/dampness in the body which arises as cough and asthma.  Symptoms that may coexist with coughing and breathing issues are thick and sticky sputum, a sensation of fullness or tightness in the chest, vomiting, nausea, fatigue, possibly anorexia, and/or loose stools.  May also be used for chronic bronchitis and asthma with thicker white/gray tongue coating/mucus. A host of other conditions may arise from phlegm-damp including dizziness, insomnia, possibly palpitations, cysts in the breast, ovaries and/or thyroid, seizures, alcohol hangover, among others.*

Caution: Do not take this formula if you have, or develop, a fever.  For best results avoid spicy and oily foods while taking this formula.
